GHRU, Saikheda Organised DIY Sustainable Product Contest
The Innovation Club organised a DIY Sustainable Product Contest on 15 September 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chess Area, Old Building, Ground Floor, GHRU Saikheda. The event encouraged students to create eco-friendly products from waste and reusable materials to promote innovation, creativity and sustainable thinking.
Participants displayed a wide range of practical items made from commonly available waste materials, including:
- Hanging showpieces made from used plastic bottles, jute rope and glue.
- Storage boxes fashioned from repurposed plastic bottles, cardboard and household waste.
- Decorative showpieces made from dried and fallen leaves.
- Flower pots created from unused glass bottles.
- Decorative storage boxes crafted from newspapers and waste paper.
- Utility items made from discarded cardboard cartons.
The projects demonstrated students’ ability to apply theory to practical work while emphasising waste management, resource efficiency and environmental sustainability. The contest also supported students’ holistic development by improving problem-solving, critical thinking, design, teamwork and communication skills, and by fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), the contest promoted responsible consumption and sustainable lifestyles. Overall, the event was engaging and impactful, giving students a meaningful platform to explore sustainable solutions and contribute to a greener future.
