Mental Health Week Activities at G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management, Pune
In recognition of Mental Health Week, the Peer Counselors Club at G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management, Pune, organized a series of impactful activities from October 1 to October 9, 2024, culminating in a grand celebration on October 11. This year’s theme, "Prioritizing Mental Health at Workplaces," aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote wellness among students and faculty.
Key Highlights of the Event
The event was spearheaded by Surabhi Pranav, Counseling Psychologist at the college, and featured notable speakers who contributed valuable insights:
- Dr. Juhi Deshmukh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Savitribai Phule Pune University, emphasized the importance of mental well-being in academic settings.
- Dr. R.D. Kharadkar, Campus Director, highlighted the role of educational institutions in fostering supportive environments for mental health.
- Dr. Vandana Dureja, Dean of F.Y. B. Tech, also attended, enriching the discussions with her perspective.
Activities Conducted
Throughout the week, a variety of engaging activities were organized to promote mental health awareness:
- Impromptu Oratory: Students showcased their public speaking skills while discussing mental health topics.
- Picture Perception and Discussion Test: This activity encouraged participants to interpret images related to mental health and engage in meaningful discussions.
- Creative Canvas Clash: A creative art competition that allowed students to express their thoughts on mental health through art.
Additional highlights included:
- Movie Show for Teachers: A screening that sparked discussions about mental health themes, fostering a deeper understanding among faculty.
- Short Skit: A performance that showcased relevant scenarios, illustrating the importance of mental health awareness.
- Treasure Hunt: Designed to encourage teamwork and collaboration among participants.
The week concluded with a Workshop for Non-Teaching Staff, which saw participation from a total of 130 students across various departments, demonstrating strong interest in mental health awareness.
Grand Celebration
The celebration on October 11 featured talks and activities that fostered a greater understanding of mental health issues. Peer Counselor Ayan Shaikh served as the Master of Ceremony, guiding the event with enthusiasm. Peer Counselor Tehseen Shaikh continued the felicitation ceremony, while Peer Counselor Tanushree Yaltiwar proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all involved.
A special recognition was awarded to Yash Mishra, who received the title of Best Mentor of Mental Health Week 2024 for his exceptional support throughout the week.
Overall, the Mental Health Week activities were a resounding success, significantly strengthening the support network for both students and faculty while promoting a culture of openness regarding mental health on campus.
