Field Visit to Fire Station Wagholi by GHRCEM, Pune Students

On 23rd August 2024, the Civil Engineering Department of G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management organized a visit to the Fire Station in Wagholi, Pune, from 10:30 AM to 03:00 PM. The visit was attended by a total of 47 students and 2 faculty members, aiming to provide practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of fire safety and emergency response.

Overview of the Visit: 

The visit was led by Chief Fire Officer Mr. Devendra Potphode, along with Divisional Officer Mr. Vijay Mahajan and firefighters Mr. Prashant Adsul, Mr. Prakash Madane, and Mr. Sachin Gavali. The primary objective was to gain first-hand knowledge of fire safety protocols, understand the operations of a fire station, and learn about effective disaster management strategies.

During the visit, students were introduced to the various operations of the fire station, including the equipment used and the critical role firefighters play in disaster management. The firefighters shared their experiences and the challenges they face during firefighting operations, emphasizing the physical and mental demands of the job, the importance of teamwork, and the necessity for constant training and preparedness.

Key Activities:

- Interactive Session: Students had the opportunity to interact with the firefighters, who provided insights into their daily routines and the skills required for effective emergency response.

- Live Demonstration: A live demonstration was conducted to showcase how firefighters tackle different types of fires. The team demonstrated the use of various firefighting equipment, including fire extinguishers, hoses, and breathing apparatus.

- Hands-On Experience: Participants were allowed to handle some of the firefighting equipment under supervision, which provided them with practical understanding and experience in firefighting techniques.

Gratitude and Acknowledgment: 

The Disaster Management Club expressed sincere gratitude to the Wagholi Fire Station team for their time and effort in making the visit both educational and engaging. The firefighters’ willingness to share their knowledge and experiences greatly enriched the learning experience for all participants.

Outcome of the Visit: 

The visit provided practical insights into fire safety, equipping students with valuable emergency response skills. It inspired future safety initiatives within the college and the broader community. The outcomes of this visit have not only enhanced the students’ knowledge but also laid the foundation for a more safety-conscious environment at G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management, Wagholi, Pune.

In conclusion, the visit to the Fire Station was a significant step in promoting disaster management awareness and fostering a culture of safety among students.
