Workshop on “Hydrogen Fuel: Advantages to the Automotive Industry” at G H Raisoni College of Engineering & Management, Pune
The Renewable Energy Club, under the Mechanical Engineering Department of G H Raisoni College of Engineering & Management (GHRCEM), Pune, organized a one-day workshop on “Hydrogen Fuel: Advantages to the Automotive Industry” on October 11, 2024. This workshop focused on hydrogen as a type of green fuel that is environmentally friendly, as it does not emit harmful gases after combustion. The use of hydrogen fuel contributes to reducing air pollution and addressing global warming issues. Notably, hydrogen has a wide flammability range compared to other fuels, allowing it to be combusted in an internal combustion engine over a broad spectrum of fuel-air mixtures. This characteristic enables hydrogen to operate on a lean mixture, making it a viable alternative for automotive applications.
The workshop featured a session conducted by Prof. Dr. Sameer S. Gajghate, the principal investigator of the Center for Excellence in Hydrogen Fuel Test Laboratory. He provided insights into the necessity of hydrogen fuel for the future and motivated students to explore research opportunities in this field. Prof. Gajghate also conducted a practical demonstration of a hydrogen fuel engine, summarizing the current status of engine technology and the potential utilization of hydrogen fuel worldwide. The students actively engaged in the session, which was well-received, with a total of 53 participants from various departments attending the demonstration. Overall, the program was successfully conducted, highlighting the importance of hydrogen fuel in the automotive industry and inspiring students to consider its future applications.
