Introduction of Movie Club to First Year at GHRCEM, Pune

The Movie Club at G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management, Pune, organized a special screening of the inspiring film Chandu Champion on August 26th, 2024, as part of an event aimed at introducing first-year students to the club’s mission and activities. This screening was the club’s way of welcoming new students while sharing its core values of emotional well-being and personal growth through impactful cinema.

The event, scheduled from 11:00 am to 1:45 pm, kicked off with the guest of honor, Dr. Vandana Dureja, Dean of the First Year, addressing the students. Club coordinator Mrs. Surabhi Pranav welcomed the gathering, and Movie Club President, Pravin Paithankar, provided an introduction to the club, its goals, and the type of events and activities it organizes. He emphasized how the club uses films as a medium to inspire, motivate, and help students navigate their personal and academic lives.

The highlight of the event was the screening of Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, which tells the real-life story of Chandu, an athlete who overcomes numerous personal and professional obstacles to represent India. The film was selected to motivate first-year students, encouraging them to develop mental resilience, self-belief, and a never-give-up attitude, especially as they embark on their college journey. The screening drew in great participation from the first-year students, who were visibly engaged throughout the event. They cheered during Chandu’s victories and felt deeply moved by his struggles, showcasing how well the film resonated with them. The students were captivated by the sports sequences and dramatic moments, which mirrored their own academic challenges and aspirations.

After the screening, a discussion was held where students reflected on the film’s themes of perseverance, determination, and the importance of overcoming setbacks. Many first-year attendees expressed how the story of Chandu Champion inspired them to face their own challenges in college with courage and resilience. The film's message of turning personal adversities into strengths was particularly impactful for the audience. Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Many appreciated the empowering themes and found the story of Chandu relevant to their own experiences as new students adjusting to college life. The event succeeded in introducing the first-year students to the club’s focus on using films as a tool for emotional and mental well-being.

The Movie Club, under the leadership of President Pravin Paithankar and the guidance of Faculty Coordinator Mrs. Surabhi Pranav, continues to promote a supportive and motivational environment through its thoughtfully curated film screenings.
