The Peer Counsellor’s Club at GH Raisoni College of Engineering and Management Pune hosted an engaging and informative event titled Introduction to Peer Counselling. This session was aimed at introducing students to the concept and importance of peer counselling within the academic framework, aligning with the college’s ongoing efforts to build a culture that supports mental health and well-being.
The session was graced by the presence of two distinguished faculty members, Dr. Pragati Korde and Dr. Vandana Dureja, the First-Year Dean at GHRCEM. Their attendance reflected the administration's support and the institution’s commitment to mental health awareness. The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Mrs. Surabhi Pranav, the counselling psychologist at GHRCEM. Ma'am's speech provided deep insights into the growing importance of mental health on college campuses and the role of peer counsellors in providing early intervention for students experiencing emotional distress. She discussed how peer counselling serves as a first line of support, offering students a space to talk about their issues with someone who understands their pressures and can guide them toward professional help when necessary.
The event was organized with the objective of informing students about how peer counselling can play a pivotal role in providing emotional and mental health support in their academic lives. In today’s fast-paced and competitive educational environment, students face mounting academic and personal challenges, making it critical to have supportive frameworks like peer counselling. This session helped students understand how peer counselling can assist in recognizing and addressing issues such as anxiety, stress, and personal difficulties in a confidential and empathetic setting.
The active involvement of the Peer Counselling Club members, along with the supportive faculty, helped ensure the event was a smooth and successful one. The information was provided by Peer Counsellor Tehseen Shaikh about Peer Counsellors Club. The event ended on a high note, with students taking away valuable lessons on the importance of mental well-being and how peer counselling can be an effective tool in navigating the challenges of academic life.
In conclusion, the Introduction to Peer Counselling session was a great success, achieving its goal of raising awareness about the importance of mental health and the benefits of peer counselling.
