Overview of Renewable Sector in India

Expert session on “Overview of Renewable Sector in India” at Raisoni Campus

Out of total 417 GW installed capacity, central, state, private sector having share of 24%, 25% and 50% respectively. This rise in private sector share happens due to major decision of 2003 electricity act. Fossil fuel have major share of 57.7% at today’s date. This includes coal as major fuel. The power generation from thermal power plants releases NOx, Sox, CO2, CO, etc. pollutants. These lead to several problems like respiratory problems, acid rain, reduced fertility of soil, global warming, etc. The thrmal pollution and soil pollution is considerable. Therefore, electricity from renewable energy sources is a good option for coming future.  Rapidly growing renewable sector have large potential of employment generation.  The session was conducted for first year Mechanical and Civil Engineering students. 52 students attended the session. The scope for projects was also discussed in this session.
