National Mathematics Day

“National Mathematics Day” Celebration at SRWC, Nagpur

National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on December 22, honoring the birth anniversary of mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, "the man who knew infinity." Sadabai Raisoni Women's College organized a Math Innovation Fair to celebrate National Mathematics Day on January 13, 2023. The fair was open to all attendees, including other college students, faculty, and staff. The alumni of Sadabai Raisoni Women’s College were also invited to the fair. Forty-two students from BCA, BSc (IT), and BSc (Home Science) were registered for the event's various stalls. Students enthusiastically participated in the fair and made wonderful, amazing models and games on various topics. The event helped to foster students' interest in learning mathematics, increase their motivation and performance, encourage lifelong learning, and facilitate positive interactions and relationships. Students also prepared some food stalls. They related these food stalls to some mathematical puzzles with discount coupons.

The fair was judged by different committees of judges for different stalls on the basis of mathematical approach and originality in planning and execution. An SRWC alumna, Ms. Ayesha Khan, was also invited to serve as a judge at the Math Innovation Fair. The Mumber Ninja team was the winner of the best innovative model. The two winning teams of the most creative and entertaining games were the Pi-thons and the Challengers. Limit Breakers was the winner of the food stalls. At the end of the celebration, winners were awarded with gifts, and all the participants were facilitated by the certificates. Math Fair visitors experience math as they never have before. They find themselves inside a life-size version of models and educational games. Visitors not only create memories, but also a desire to solve problems. The event was interesting, fun-filled, and enjoyable for the students. "Mathematics is the abstract key that turns the lock of the physical universe." So these types of events keep the interest of students in the subject and encourage them to do their best. The event was coordinated by Prof. Purnima Rai, Math Club coordinator, SRWC under the guidance of Principal Amina Vali, SRWC.
